Zara and River Island invest in new flagships at Intu Lakeside

Zara and River Island have announced major expansion plans at Intu Lakeside, creating two new flagships as part of a multi-million-pound transformation of the centre.

River Island is doubling its current footprint, with a new 21,000 sq ft space and Zara is tripling its store size to 35,000 sq ft. The shops will be among the largest in both retailers’ portfolios.

River Island and Zara are the latest retailers to bolster their retail selling space at the Essex-based shopping centre. H&M doubled the size of its store to 36,000 sq ft and Next opened an expanded 70,000 sq ft store in spring last year.

Intu Lakeside has also embarked on a £72m development to enhance its leisure brand offering, including Nickelodeon, Hollywood Bowl and Puttshack, due to open early next year.
