Original Factory Shop boosted by Woolworths collapse

Like-for-like sales rose 12% at Original Factory Shop over the 12 weeks to March 29, thanks to the increasing number of bargain-hungry shoppers coupled with the demise of high street rival Woolworths.

Original Factory Shop, which sells branded merchandise with discounts of up to 70%, said it had also signed two former Woolworths stores in South Wales.

Original Factory Shop plans to open 30 stores this year and shops in Peterborough and Shirehampton near Bristol are due to open this month.

Original Factory Shop chief executive Angela Spindler said: “Our performance over the past 14 weeks reflects our ability to deliver real value to communities across the UK and also highlights our relevance in an increasingly tough retail climate. We’re now looking forward to driving this momentum forward into summer, especially as more people opt to stay at home this year.”
