Original Penguin listed as Cool Brand

US lifestyle brand Original Penguin has been shortlisted as one of the UK’s coolest brands for 2011/2012.

The brand, which has also been shortlisted as a finalist in the Drapers’ Fashion Awards for the Young Fashion Brand of the Year category, was announced as having made the CoolBrands list, which is now in its tenth year.

CoolBrands is co-ordinated by the Centre for Brand Analysis and is drawn from over 10,000 independently identified brands, whittled down into a shortlist of 1,500, judged by a panel of 36 who included celebrities such as Jessie J, Ben de Lisi, Rob da Bank and Sadie Frost.

Each brand is scored on factors such as style, innovation, originality, authenticity, desirability and uniqueness, before more than 2,000 members of the British public gave their ratings.

The views of both the panel and consumers were combined to produce a list of the 500 brands most highly rated.

The complete CoolBrands list can be purchased from bookshops or online at .

  • You can't be cool and be in discounters/clearance houses such as TK Maxx and Jacamo. If Penguin wants to take itself seriously, it has to get out of this end of the market, as many potential customers will not touch Penguin with a barge pole until this issue is addressed.
