Outerwear boosts John Lewis fashion sales

Fashion sales at John Lewis grew last week, boosted by men’s outerwear.

Fashion sales for week 13 were up 18.6%, and up 6.6% for the 13 weeks up to April 28.

Men’s outerwear saw a “significant” boost from the wet weather, though sandals and sunglasses were both down 60%.

Overall, fashion grew 18.6%, with John Lewis expecting a “positive season”.

The department store’s sales jumped last week, powered mainly by a strong performance in electricals and home technology, however.

John Lewis saw 32.4% growth in sales for the week to April 28, compared with last year. Total sales for the 13 weeks to April 28 grew 12.2%.

The comparisons were helped by a lower number last year due both to the fall of Easter Sunday and the effect of the royal wedding, the department store said.
