Pantone say 2013 is the year to go green

Pantone, the global authority on everything colour and provider of professional colour standards for the design industries, has announced Emerald green as the colour of the year for 2013.

Describing the shade as a “lively, radiant, lush green”, they are predicting that the glossy green will be seen everywhere for the next 12 months, cropping up on clothes, makeup, interiors and even graphic design.

Drapers already predicted the return of green in our February textile report HERE and emerald tones have already been spotted in the spring 13 collections of many womenswear designers including Burberry, Mary Katrantzou, Kenzo and Prada, promising to make an even bigger impact when the autumn 13 ranges are revealed.

“The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other colour in the spectrum,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute. “Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.”

So there you have it – go green and stay positive!

  • Green has always been a bitch to sell, despite it being a nice colour. The thing is, the colour show here doesn't look like anything like Emerald Green! More like a deep mint, though obviously Pantone Colour think otherwise.

  • Consumers do like green, but I agree it has to be the correct shade, the swatch doesn,t look quite right.
    Emerald green is rich and sexy and opulent so lets get it right.
