There’s something familiar yet somehow ‘off’ about the silhouette created by Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver this season.
When you realise it’s reminiscent of a cartoon villain, the obvious response is scepticism, but the more you look, the more the exaggerated masculinity makes sense. Shoulders were huge and legs oddly slim in comparison, but this worked in a collection in which outerwear - whether db, sb, collarless or quilted - was king. While there was nothing technically very new, revisiting the classics provided a solid, commercially viable collection.
In short Edgy is always fun, but there’s nothing wrong with well-made classic menswear. This ‘something for everyone’ collection will complement autumn stock.
