Patagonia appoints new managing director

Outdoor lifestyle company Patagonia has appointed Stefan Wahlén to the new role of managing director.

Stefan Wahlén, who started in his new role as managing director on July 1, joined the business from British heritage menswear brand Wolsey, where he held the position of vice president of international development and sales for just over a year.

Prior to Wolsey, Wahlén worked as global sales director for performance wear brand Peak Performance for over five years.

Wahlén will focus on retail expansion for the brand and will look to appoint a new European retail manager as one of his first priorities in his new role.

“The company sees Europe as a key market for growth with great potential,” said Wahlén.

“With increased investment in people and infrastructure Patagonia is building on the foundations for increased success in this market.

“With great results last year, we are now in a position to reinforce the European team. Despite the challenging economic environment, we see a lot of growth potential for us with a number of new innovating products and interesting stories.”

Patagonia reported turnover of $540m (£348.2m) for full-year to April 30, 2012.
