Fiona Lambert started 2015 with a promotion to vice president of product development design at Asda, expanding her remit to cover all own-label brands at the supermarket chain.
And the Drapers cover star kept the momentum going in the months that followed, helping land Asda a nomination for Fashion Retail Business of the Year (£500m+ turnover) at the 25th anniversary of the prestigious Drapers Awards. However, she drops out of the top 10 this year after the chain suffered what it described as “the worst storm in retail history”. Like-for-like sales fell 4.5% for the 13 weeks to September 30 and 4.7% for the 11 weeks to June 30, following a drop of 4% for the 15 weeks to April 19 and of 2.6% for the 12 weeks to January 4.
There was no breakdown for sales in Asda’s clothing and no doubt Lambert continues to work closely with Nick Jones, the new managing director of George at Asda, to make the 237 million George garments in almost 400 Asda stores and on George.com a success.
