21. Nick Robertson, co-founder and former chief executive,

Nick Robertson

Position last year: 13

Many in the ecommerce world were not surprised when Nick Robertson stepped down from his role as chief executive in September, which has led to his fall in the rankings this year. Despite staying on at the etailer as a non-executive director, his loss will be keenly felt by those in the business he founded 15 years ago and across the wider sector.

Often described as the driving force behind the etailer’s growth from small start up to the £1bn-plus online giant that it is today, Robertson is a digital visionary who has been credited with introducing market-leading innovations such as video catwalk clips of every item for sale and same-day or next-day delivery to boost inspiration and convenience for shoppers. With his next move still unknown, the fashion retailing industry will be keen to see where he might re-appear next year.
