24. Andy Rubin, chairman, Pentland Brands

Andy Rubin

Position last year: 25

Pentland Brands chairman Andy Rubin told Drapers earlier this year that the secret to success in this market is investing in the business, its employees and external opportunities – and what a successful year it has been for him.

The business, which owns brands including Speedo, Canterbury of New Zealand and Boxfresh, picked up three gongs at the Drapers Footwear Awards 2015 – Best Kids’ Brand for Kickers, Best Men’s Fashion Brand and Best International Business for Ted Baker for which it is the international footwear licensee.

In its most recent financial results the group – which also owns a 57% stake in JD Sports Fashion – reported a 30% jump in operating profit to £160m for the year to December 2014, which was announced in June. Revenue across Pentland Group increased 14% to £2.2bn over the year while revenue from Pentland Brands, which includes Speedo, Canterbury of New Zealand and other non-retail businesses, was up 5% to £618m.
