Department store retailer Selfridges, which has stores in London, Birmingham and two locations in Manchester, has had another stellar year under the leadership of managing director Anne Pitcher. Kicking it off, the firm reported another record rise in profits for the second year running, with gross sales for the year up 4.3% to £1.3bn, while operating profit was up 3.4% to £155m for the year ending January 31 2015.
This year also saw the retailer continue its three-year, £300m redevelopment of its flagship on London’s Oxford Street.
Pitcher also pushed the department store in its innovative and experimental approach to retail. It was one of the first retailers to stock the Apple Watch when it launched earlier this year, while March saw the Agender pop-up appear across three floors of its London store, promoting gender-neutral product.
