Junior buyer, suits, Moss Bros, aged 26
Nasif Choudhury’s interest in fashion started at college, when he took on a textiles A-level alongside maths, economics and business. He combined these to gain a place at London College of Fashion to study for a BA in Fashion Management, which included a placement year at River Island. “Shortly after handing in my dissertation, I landed myself a buyer’s admin role at Moss Bros. A year in, I was promoted to assistant buyer, then further promoted to junior buyer on Moss’s biggest department - suits - which is the position I currently hold,” he says.
He says it took a lot of hard work. “Life rewards those who face difficult challenges and obstacles, but press on with firm determination and purpose,” advises Choudhury. “My advice would be never moan, never grumble, roll your sleeves up and press on with a clear sense of purpose. Be visionary. Always keep people on your side and your options open. Soft skills such as adapting yourself to different types of personalities are very important.”
Although Choudhury has had many mentors, he cites his mother as a key influencer in his career.
“She keeps me grounded and always reminds me to maintain integrity by treating people well. Be honest, fair and never, ever prove arrogant.”
