46. Euan Sutherland, chief executive, SuperGroup

Euan Sutherland

New entry

Things have been on the up at Superdry owners SuperGroup in the 12 months since Euan Sutherland joined as chief executive in October 2014 from the Co-operative Group. Revenue increased 22.4% to £254.9m in the half-year to October 24, driven by retail revenue which soared 30.9% to £172.2m. Wholesale revenues were also on the rise, up 8% to £82.7m.

During the period Sutherland led SuperGroup to open 14 new stores, taking its total to 100 in the UK and Republic of Ireland, 77 in Europe and 15 in North America. He also announced the retailer would begin opening stores in China from mid-2016 as part of a 10-year deal with Chinese retailer Trendy International Group.

Sutherland made his ambitions clear last month when he stated his intention to improve group infrastructure and develop the product offering in order to build Superdry into a global lifestyle brand. And after being awarded £1.4m worth of shares in the business in August, the chief executive has every incentive to ensure business continues to grow.
