Sebastian Manes, ‎buying and merchandising director, Selfridges

Position last year: 46

Selfridges buying and merchandising director Sebastian Manes and his fashion buying team had another strong year, maintaining the department store’s position as one of the most innovative and successful not only in the UK, but globally. Thanks in part to Manes and his team’s selection of fashion, footwear and accessories, including everyone from sell-out label Self Portrait, to luxury players Gucci, Saint Laurent and Prada, the latest results showed another record rise in profits for the second year running, with gross sales for the year up 4.3% to £1.3bn, while operating profit was up 3.4% to £155m for the year ending January 31, 2015.

Manes is known for pushing the envelope with his stellar edit of brands, ranging from the biggest luxury names through to emerging designers and brand new names, often bagging exclusives available only at Selfridges and partnering on special one-off collaborations, which this year included a special range of Star Wars products created in collaboration with emerging London Fashion Week labels, including Agi & Sam and Bobby Abley.
