Derek Lawlor

Senior vice president of food and general merchandise, Asda

In May, Nick Jones, managing director of Asda’s George clothing line, left to join Joules as CEO, and Derek Lawlor was promoted to the role of senior vice-president of food and general merchandise. Lawlor spent 24 years at Tesco before joining Asda in 2015.

In September, Asda announced a pop-up trial of “Re-Loved” second-hand clothing in its Milton Keynes store, donated from a range of brands as part of its commitment to sustainability. Proceeds went to breast cancer charities.

This year, the planned merger of Asda and Sainsbury’s was blocked by the Competition and Markets Authority, laying to rest concern that the George and Tu clothing lines would merge.
