Nigel Oddy and Alistair McGeorge

Chief operating officer and executive chairman, New Look

New Look has had a transformative year following its company voluntary arrangement in March 2018. It returned to a full-year operating profit and slashed debt by 80% with a comprehensive restructuring in May.

Former House of Fraser chief executive Nigel Oddy joined as chief operating officer in April and has been instrumental in repositioning the value retailer for growth. Under Oddy and executive chairman Alistair McGeorge, New Look has abandoned menswear store retail and cut back its international operations.

Although group revenue fell by 12.9% year on year to £523.8m in the six months to 28 September 2019, it reduced its statutory loss before tax by £30.7m to £11.2m.

Oddy has promised many changes are yet to bear fruit, making New Look one to watch for 2020.
