Alongside her booming beauty business and glittering musical career, in 2019 Rihanna extended her influence on fashion.
In May, the singer launched luxury label Fenty with French conglomerate LVMH, owner of brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Loewe and Givenchy. Unveiled in May, the collection comprises womenswear, accessories, footwear and eyewear.
Meanwhile, her lingerie business, Savage x Fenty, which is stocked by Zalando and Asos, among others, flourished. The Wall Street Journal reported that Rihanna raised an additional $50m (£40m) in funding for it in August 2019, taking total investment to $70m (£57m).
In September, she launched the latest Savage x Fenty collection at New York Fashion Week with another first – an hour-long performance filmed live at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which continued the label’s inclusive celebration of different genders, ages, sizes and ethnicities. The event was livestreamed exclusively on Amazon Prime, and a reported 200 million subscribers tuned in.
