Australian retailer the Cotton On Group is on a mission to attract the world’s best talent as it sets about breaking its own record by opening 150 stores in the 120 days across the globe in the lead up to Christmas.
With the global retail market flattening in recent months, the Cotton On Group, which is one of Australia’s largest retailers, continues to buck the trend. This week it announced its plan to implement large-scale global expansion. To support this aggressive growth strategy, the Group has embarked on a campaign to attract the UK’s best talent to its global headquarters in Geelong, on Victoria’s famous surf coast, 70km West of Melbourne.
“Between now and 25 December, we’ll be opening 153 stores globally, which equates to more than one new store per day. It’s a really exciting time for the Group, but critical to our success is ensuring we have the best team in place to support the expansion,” says Cotton On Group CEO Peter Johnson.
Currently, the Group has approximately 20,000 team members across 17 countries, in roles such as retail operations, logistics, ecommerce, marketing, buying, production, merchandising, planning, innovation, trend forecasting and health and wellbeing, just to name a few. The 153 stores set to open before Christmas will form part of the Group’s broader target to add 570 new stores to its portfolio over the next three years.
In the UK, the Group will be setting its sights on London as it spearheads the search for talented, innovative and forward-thinking UK based planners, merchandisers and buyers, who are passionate about retail and keen to embrace the global career opportunities that exist with the Group.
“The exciting pace of our business and our rapid growth plans mean we have more opportunities than ever before. We are scouring the globe for the industry’s best - people who share our values, will embrace our culture and want to go places with us,” Johnson said.
The lure of coastal living, true work-life balance, vast career growth opportunities and a strong business commitment to family has seen some of the top retail talent from the USA, Asia, South Africa, Europe and the Middle East head down under to pursue a career with the burgeoning Group.
“We’re incredibly excited to be spending time in the UK at the start of November for our Global Roadshow and getting the opportunity to meet with some of the best retail minds in the market, as we truly believe this is where we’ll find industry leaders fit for the challenge,” says Cotton On Group head of recruitment Jo Barr.
