Talent is what drives fashion forward, and one of Drapers’ key purposes is to nurture that talent and enable new entrants to the sector to gain the inspiration and guidance they need to become the leaders of tomorrow.
In such a fast-moving industry, the support and guidance of mentors and successful industry players can be critical for anyone looking to progress. For that reason, the Drapers Next Generation project is an extremely important part of what we do and one of the high points of the Drapers year.
It is a day-long academy attended by around 300 of the fashion business’s brightest young talents, all starting out on the path to greatness.
We produce for them a day of inspiring talks, panels and presentations from the very top names in fashion, all of whom generously give their time and energy to help the Next Generation get ahead.
We launched Drapers Next Generation four years ago in conjunction with our founder partner sponsor Success Appointments, and this year were delighted to also have the support of retail partners Matalan, Arcadia and Aurora Fashions.
The 2013 event was our biggest ever, with incredible speakers including Debenhams chief executive Michael Sharp, Pentland Brands chief executive Andy Rubin, Oasis and Warehouse chief executive Liz Evans and Primark chief executive Paul Marchant sharing their wisdom and career advice.
Over the next few pages we bring you the highlights from the event, some of the key learnings from the speakers and panel sessions and a flavour of what our audience took away from the day.
We are extremely proud to have hosted such a room full of talent, from the stars of the future to the current sector leaders. Both made for a highly inspirational day.
