Drapers Top 100 2016 – 25: Peter Ruis, chief executive, Jigsaw

Peter Ruis is racing up the top 100 after another strong year at Jigsaw. This time last year, it revealed that annual sales had broken the £100m mark for the first time, and it is now ploughing ahead towards a target of £150m. The premium brand scooped the gong for Fashion Retail Business of the Year (£101m-£500m turnover) at the Drapers Awards 2016 in November for its innovation and impressive financials. It was also named Best Place to Work.

Jigsaw has opened 10 stores in the UK and internationally this year, including a second “emporium” concept store in London’s St James’s Market in October. As of November, it had 134 stores, and plans to open around 50 in the UK within the next five years.

Meanwhile, in a world where the high street is increasingly defined by discounting, Jigsaw is staying true to its full-price manifesto. Its stance on this issue, which has plagued so many retailers over the past couple of years, is to be applauded.
