Sergio bucher vice president of eu fashion at amazon
The appointment this year of Sergio Bucher, former vice-president of Amazon Fashion Europe, as chief executive at Debenhams, suggests chairman Ian Cheshire recognised a need for fresh thinking at the store. Bucher was previously general manager for retail and worldwide ecommerce at Puma, and has also held roles at Nike and Inditex.
By shifting Debenhams’ focus away from unpredictable clothing sales towards beauty, gifting, swimwear and food, it is giving itself more opportunity for growth.
Group like-for-like sales crept up 0.7% on a constant-currency basis in the 53 weeks to 3 September, while its group EBITDA fell 2.2% year on year to £233.4m. Underlying pre-tax profit edged up 0.5% to £114.1m.
We wait to see where he and Cheshire take Debenhams next year.
