Position last year: New entry
TJX Europe president Louise Greenlees has a lot to be happy about: discount retailer TK Maxx is riding high off of the back of three years of success.
In late October, its latest reported accounts showed another increase in sales – up 11% to £2.4bn in the year to January 2016. Pre-tax profits were up 11% to £142.3m. The retailer said costs were kept low by cutting back on advertising and store fittings, and focusing on expenses.
It opened 25 new stores during the year and plans to open 24 more in 2017.
Greenlees, whose CV includes stints at Burton Group and M&Co, joined TJX Europe as managing director of off-price home furnishing retailer HomeSense in the UK in 2010. She became managing director of the wider company, including TK Maxx, in 2013, and was promoted to president at the beginning of 2015.
