When everyone from other designers to high street retailers start replicating your work, it is safe to say your influence is being felt throughout the industry, and that is the case for Demna Gvasalia, creative director of Balenciaga and head of the collective behind buzz brand Vetements.

In 2016, he made his Balenciaga debut, replacing American Alexander Wang, resulting in some of the most buzzed-about collections in recent seasons.

The Vetements effect is plan to see as Gvasalia’s mismatched hemmed trousers and oversized sportswear not only sell out at a slew of luxury retailers, but also creep into other collections across the industry.

In recognition of this, Gvasalia scooped two awards at the British Fashion Council’s recent Fashion Awards: International Ready-to-Wear Designer for his work at Balenciaga and the International Urban Luxury Brand for Vetements.
