Drapers Top 100 2017 – 23. Sir Philip Green, chairman, the Arcadia Group

Sir Philip Green

Although the drama of last year’s inquiry into the sale of BHS is beginning to fade in the industry’s collective memory, Green slips further down the Top 100 after pre-tax profits at the Arcadia Group slumped by 79% year on year to £36.7m.

Several senior figures have left the fold over the past 12 months, including Burton managing director Wesley Taylor, Topshop/Topman retail director Craig McGregor, Topshop trading director James Mooney and Evans managing director Fiona Ross.

However, new senior appointments have been made. Green heralded a new era for Topshop/Topman after David Hagglund joined as creative director in September and Burberry’s Paul Price was named CEO. Price has already made his presence felt, overseeing a pre-Christmas merchandising shake-up. It is still early days, but a new glory era could be around the corner for the jewel in Arcadia’s crown.
