Stacey Cartwright is overseeing significant investment at Harvey Nichols. The new design concept unveiled in its store in the Mailbox, Birmingham, in 2015, is now being rolled out to its Knightsbridge flagship. It includes flexible spaces in which fixtures can be moved to make space for events and brand pop-ups, so Harvey Nichols can experiment with offering its customers more experiences in-store. The first phase of the Knightsbridge refurbishment was unveiled in April.
The investments hit the luxury retailer’s bottom line last year. Its most recent accounts show the department store group made a £3m profit during the 53 weeks to 2 April 2016, compared with £5.9m the year before. However, its revenues increased 1% to £194m during the period, and it is likely to have have benefitted from an uplift in trade from international shoppers following the drop in the value of the pound last June. Cartwright will step into the role of deputy chairman of Harvey Nichols early next year, following a restructure of its management team.
