Mint Velvet chief executive Liz Houghton picked up an OBE for services to business and charity this summer. Under her leadership, the womenswear brand has come to be regarded as one of fashion’s success stories.
Houghton started the business with co-founders Jane Rawlings and Lisa Agar-Rea in 2009 after the trio saw agap in the market for luxurious womenswear that could be worn every day. It is now stocked in John Lewis, House of Fraser and Next, among others.
The brand’s success is difficult to quantify as it does not publish its financials. However, it has visibly expanded its store estate over the past year. It was among the raft of retailers opening at the new £440m Westgate Oxford shopping centre in October. Mint Velvet also moved into Jaeger’s former home in the upmarket Yorkshire town of Beverley.
