Drapers Top 100 2017 – 9. Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane, co-founders and joint chief executives, Boohoo Group

Boohoo co-founders Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane toasted yet another bumper year of growth in 2017, in an increasingly crowded fast fashion market. Bolting on US etailer Nasty Gal in a $20m (£15m) deal in February has accelerated both its transatlantic and domestic expansion, feeding into new office openings in Los Angeles and Manchester this year.

Combining Nasty Gal with both the etailer’s namesake label and PrettyLittleThing, which it acquired at the end of last year, meant group sales for the six months to 31 August surged by 106% to £262.9m compared with the same period in 2016, while EBITDA rocketed by 68% to £27.8m.

The group’s rapid expansion has fuelled grand ambitions to develop a new “super-site” warehouse of more than 600,000 sq ft, to accommodate more than £2bn in net sales capacity on top of the £1bn capacity provided by its already-extended Burnley site.
