Drapers 30 Under 30 2020: Hirrah Anwar, director of digital strategy, Parker Lane Group

Hirrah Anwar has been busy since she joined retail supply chain specialist Parker Lane Group, which helps retailers to manage returns, in 2018. Her many accomplishments include driving operational efficiency, focusing on sustainability, revamping company branding, improving the customer experience online and forging strong relationships with suppliers.

“Hirrah’s real strength is that she’s able to add great value across all departments: from leading client negotiations to keeping the service offering relevant for Parker Lane’s partners as sustainability becomes an increasing customer focus,” explains manager Oliver Tomlins, business development manager at Parker Lane. “Above all else, she has been critical in bringing departments and teams closer together to have more aligned goals. Hirrah has encouraged more effective internal collaboration.”

Anwar started her career in financial consulting at Deloitte, later realising she was better suited to a career in retail and technology. In 2015, she moved to analyst Accenture’s graduate scheme, where she worked on strategy, problem solving and modernisation.

“I’ve learnt that, in order to be successful, I need to speak my mind,” she says. “As a woman, you can feel that you need to avoid offending anyone and worry that you’re coming across as brash or pushy. This is particularly true of women from south Asian cultures. Learning to find my voice has driven positive outcomes not only for the business and for my team, but also for myself.”
