What he’s learnt: “Never compare yourself to others – focus on your own development.”
When Yoox Net-a-Porter Group’s (YNAP) head of technology Claire Lamb first heard about Drapers 30 Under 30, Jerome Clarke immediately sprung to mind. He joined the online fashion empire in 2015 as a graduate software engineer, and rose to associate iOS developer last year.
Lamb points to his influence inside YNAP, where he is known for his dedication, and his work within London’s wider technology community. He is a key part of West London Coders, a volunteer-run initiative that helps aspiring and experienced developers to sharpen their coding skills. Clarke joined the project in its infancy in 2016 and spotted its potential, securing sponsorship from YNAP that allows the group to meet in its London HQ, as well as providing food and drink. What started as small group is now a 700-strong network, which has worked with Sky and Google Developers.
“Jerome stands out as someone who is passionate and dedicated, but most of all as someone who wants to make a difference and change how tech roles are perceived going forward,” says Lamb.
Clarke won his first YNAP “hackathon” last year, an internal competition giving developers the chance to create something new. He impressed by creating an integrated multichannel shopping experience using iBeacons for Mr Porter’s iOS app.
