Johannah Whatley, 27

Senior merchandise planner, Juicy Couture Europe

Johannah Whatley joined Juicy Couture Europe in November last year as senior merchandise planner, based in London. She is responsible for all product categories in the retail and wholesale divisions.

This is a big step for Whatley as she was previously involved only in wholesale ranges. She moved to London from New York, where she was the director of merchandising for menswear at DKNY Jeans & Sportswear for this role.

Whatley joined DKNY in 2006, as merchandiser for knits and sweaters. By 2008, at the age 25, she was appointed to director, overseeing all menswear product. Before DKNY Jeans, she worked at Nautica Jeans, where she cut her teeth in merchandising, presenting, and analysis.

Whattley says: “Working with the amazingly talented (and fun) design team at DKNY [was one of the highlights of my career so far]. Nothing is better than creating product the team believes in, and seeing its success at market.”

Her advice to anyone wishing to follow in her footsteps is to “intern during university. Very few things trump real world experience. Take the time to forge relationships with those you work with; it makes everyone’s day more enjoyable, and friends help friends out.”

Michael Page Retail managing director Gerrard Peter says: “
Johannah’s eye for the aesthetic, understanding of her customer, and keen analytical skills continue to propel her ahead. Her love for fashion and the challenge of creating a commercially successful line drives and inspires her.”
