Drapers 30 Under 30 2020: Jon Michael, online concessions commercial manager, Ted Baker

Age: 30

From Ted Baker’s shop floor on Regent Street to its London headquarters – known as the Ugly Brown Building – Jon Michael is on an impressive trajectory. He joined the premium retailer’s head office in 2012 as a menswear buying administration assistant and has since worked across both buying and merchandising.

As part of his role as online concessions commercial manager, Michael has played a key role in an 18-month transformation project designed to overhaul Ted Baker’s technology offer.

Helen Stock, project manager at Ted Baker, says of Michael: “If you cut him open, he would bleed Ted. Working relentlessly in a challenging environment, Jon was an integral member of the business process team. Hew  was instrumental in the design and implementation of our enterprise resource planning system. He led from the front in an exemplary fashion and it was testament to him that the project launched successfully.”

She adds that this rising star has the potential to climb to the very top of the industry thanks to his passion, commitment and motivation.

Michael urges other young talent to “never shy away from experience” and says, “Experience provides us with an opportunity to learn, grow and develop, no matter whether it’s good or bad.”
