Women’s wholesale sales manager UK and Republic of Ireland, Polo Jeans, aged 27
Kate Nellist joined Polo Jeans in mid-2010 after two-and-a-half years with denim brand Diesel, taking on the massive role of women’s wholesale manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Nellist puts her progress down to the broad experience she gained over many years on both the retail and supply sides of the fashion business.
“I’ve been working since I was 17, so although I’m still young, I have many years of experience,” she says. Although she did not study at university, Nellist is a graduate of York premium indie Sarah Coggles, where she worked before taking up a store manager position at French Connection in the city.
After two years there, she left York to take up her first position at a brand with Danish premium brand Day Birger et Mikkelsen before joining Diesel.
“I loved Diesel, but being offered a job at a brand with the prestige of Ralph Lauren was too much to resist,” she says. “I love meeting the people, and seeing how different people run their businesses in such different ways, and how they buy so differently. And then there is the added bonus that I love clothes.”
It shouldn’t be too long before Nellist makes it to sales director level.
