Michael Kliger

CEO and president, Mytheresa

Michael Kliger is a new entrant to Power 100 for 2019, as a result of driving strong growth and expansion at the German luxury ecommerce site.

The business was founded as a single boutique in Munich in 1987 but has grown to become an international luxury powerhouse. Today it is owned by US department store giant Neiman Marcus, which bought Mytheresa for an undisclosed sum in 2014.

Since then it has increased both its offer – kidswear launched in January 2019 and menswear will launch in January 2020 – and the markets it serves.

When Kliger spoke to Drapers in July, he said the ecommerce site’s curated selection of brands – it stocks only 250, of which its top performers are Balenciaga, Chloé, Gucci and Prada – was the main reason for its continuing success. Net revenue rose 25.7% to €272m (£240m) year on year in the nine months to 31 March 2019.
