Drapers 30 Under 30 2020: Modupe Ogunniyi, social media and content manager, Cath Kidston

Age: 29

Always attuned to the latest social media trends, Modupe Ogunniyi has transformed Cath Kidston’s social strategy since starting at the retailer in 2018.

She has helped to drive a mammoth increase in daily visits to its blog and delivered such a successful relaunch of its Pinterest campaign that the platform gave Cath Kidston one of its creative advertising awards, The Pinnacles, last year. Under her stewardship, Cath Kidston’s social media is now drawing in an influx of new customers.

Ogunniyi tells Drapers the biggest career lesson she has learnt is: “Always say yes. I never back down from an opportunity to try something new and put myself out there. This has seen me speaking at industry events, presenting strategies to global partners, and pitching to and winning clients. Fear always exists and, if success doesn’t come, lessons do. It’s a win-win.”

Ogunniyi started her career as a campaign assistant at Channel 5, before working for social media agency Media Bounty from 2016 to 2018.

She tells other rising stars: “Never stop learning. Also, know when it’s time to move and when it’s time to stay – make sure you’re pursuing the right thing.”
