After working as a designer for the likes of Samsøe & Samsøe and Transit, Pernille Skriver became the brand and creative manager for Copenhagen-based accessories company Becksöndergaard in 2014. With a focus on quirky prints and Scandinavian style, the label has collaborated with the likes of Coca-Cola and designs collections based on the motto “rebellious love”.

How do you describe the brand?

Becksöndergaard is an explosion of accessories: scarves, bags, socks, hats and so on, in an abundance of colours and prints. We have a saying, “rebellious love”, which describes our brand DNA. Expect the unexpected, our aim is to help women feel beautiful and able to express their own style.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the creative process with the design team, starting a new collection, brainstorming on ideas and the travels we do together, to visit suppliers and look for inspiration.

Where are your favourite places to shop for fashion?

The main capital cities – London, Paris, New York and Copenhagen, of course. I often shop when I am travelling, and I like to visit stores such as Selfridges in London and Merci in Paris. In Copenhagen, we have a lot of smaller stores with local brands such as Ganni, Storm & Marie and Henrik Vibskov, which are fun to visit.

Who do you admire most in the fashion industry?

Isabel Marant. She created her brand from scratch all alone, and has built it into this major, interesting company today, yet always stays true to her own style.

How would you define Copenhagen style?

Danes are very interested in fashion, and I think we are the country in the world with the most hipsters with a beard right now. Danes are concerned about their looks, but are also very practical since we love to bike to work.

What is the best business advice you have ever been given?

“Go, girl.” A former boss of mine taught me to trust my own instinct.

What do you do to get inspiration?

Travelling is always great. We go to flea markets and vintage stores. We look for inspiration everywhere for our prints such as old books or a beautiful tiled floor. Art exhibitions can also be great and inspire us to work in a new way with colours and textures. When we have a theme, I search for its history and research art movements or style icons of that period. I also use Pinterest to find images relating to the theme.

You worked on the Coca-Cola collaboration [launched in May 2015]. Why do you think this was a success?

It was so much fun to make our collages with the legendary Coca-Cola images from the 1950s. Many people love the pin-up girls and the colourfulness of the art works. We had a great launch with the products in one of Paris´s finest concept stores, Colette, where we displayed our scarves and fabric bags.

Who else would you love to collaborate with?

We’re always on the lookout for new adventures. It could be either an artist making collages or a painter. It’s always fun to see something from canvas or paper transformed to fabric.

Tell us something about you not many people know

I love horse riding. Every Sunday, I ride in the forests north of Copenhagen. Being at one with nature, in all kinds of weather, is the most meditative thing I know.

Favourite clothing brand?

I love Chloé: its relaxed, effortlessly chic 1970s look is so cool. Isabel Marant has some beautiful pieces in that spirit as well.

Biggest fashion splurge?

A beautiful vintage Missoni jacket

Last holiday?

Marseille. Great city: beach, nature and culture

Last book you read?

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts

Last film you watched?

Embrace of the Serpent by Ciro Guerra

Dream job?

I am very into growing my own food right now. So being in a garden all day must be wonderful and very much in contrast to what I do.
