The pace of change has never been this fast, yet it will never be this slow again. I have lost count of how many times I have heard this expression used in relation to fashion retail in 2019.

Crystal clear: Menswear designer Simon Carter revealed the costumes he designed for contestants on the 2017 remake of nineties TV game show The Crystal Maze. Carter also designed host Richard Ayoade’s suit – a look the designer described as "geography teacher with a splash of colour". The "Maze Master" will don bold suits, floral shirts and knitted ties, and finish the look with gold pixie boots. Contestants will take on the maze challenges in an updated version of the show’s trademark jumpsuits.
La dolce vita: Tod’s and Mr Porter co-hosted a glamorous pool party in a Milanese villa last week to celebrate the launch of the luxury Italian brand’s exclusive capsule collection for the men’s etailer. The 1950s villa was described as an "oasis of easy poolside glamour" as the fashion industry milled among models lounging in the collection. Yoox Net-a-Porter boss Federico Marchetti (left) and Mr Porter managing director Toby Bateman joined the fun.
Riding the waves: On a recent trawl through its archive, shirt brand Double Two took a trip down memory lane to 1984 when it sponsored one of the boats for the "Everest Double Glazing" Round Britain Offshore Powerboat Race. The 40ft Don Shead-designed, Planatec-built racer "Double Two Shirts" was crewed by Tim Hill, Richard Lawson, Viv Williams and Jan Hicks. Unfortunately mechanical failures led the crew fail to make the start of the final leg back to Portsmouth, sliding down the rankings to eventually finish in 16th place – just below another shirt brand-sponsored boat, Propeller Shirts.
Life in plastic: Machine-A founder and buying director Stavros Karelis has curated an archive exhibition of vintage Ken dolls, including a 1991 MC Hammer Ken and a 2009 Ken by Gareth Pugh. The collection, which heralds a “new crew” of Barbie and Ken dolls (pictured), will be on display at Brewer Street in Soho for a fortnight from Friday 23 June.
Playing polo: Lara Stone, Skepta and Lily Cole were among the attendees at Cartier’s Queens Cup polo tournament final on Sunday 18 June. Guests enjoyed Cartier champagne and a lunch created by Cellar Society. The afternoon finished with DJ Hugo Heathcote, with performances by musicians including DJ Mark Ronson.
