Carl McPhail

Chief executive, New Look

Carl McPhail has held the reins at New Look through a period of significant change, allowing outgoing chairman Phil Wrigley to focus on the retailer’s sustainability agenda. Within the past year, McPhail has successfully completed the relocation of New Look’s head office from Weymouth in Dorset to London, propelling the retailer onto the global fast-fashion stage and helping it to attract some serious talent to drive its international expansion ambitions, which will see it add to its 1,000-store portfolio.

McPhail led the business by growing sales to £1.32bn (up 14.9%) the year to March 28, while EBITDA increased 10.2% to £217.6m.

The Salford-born McPhail will undoubtedly drive New Look through a key moment in its 40-year history with an IPO on the cards for next year.
