Christopher Bailey

Chief creative officer, Burberry

Of the UK’s established design talent, there is no topping Burberry’s Christopher Bailey. In November, Bailey was promoted to chief creative officer for the British heritage brand, in recognition of “the clarity, consistency and purity of his amazing vision”, according to chief executive Angela Ahrendts.

His decision to bring Burberry Prorsum back to London Fashion Week to celebrate the event’s 25th anniversary in September was arguably LFW’s biggest coup. It proved to be the most sought-after ticket by a country mile and helped persuade US Vogue editor Anna Wintour that LFW was worth a visit.

Bailey delivered with an ultra-feminine womenswear range, full of sugary tones, twisting and knotting on girlish dresses and the signature trench coat.

Talking of which, Bailey masterminded the launch of this year to catalogue trench coat wearers’ love of the outerwear item by commissioning photographs from The Sartorialist blogger Scott Schuman.
