Dilip Patel

UK and Republic of Ireland managing director, Inditex

In June Dilip Patel was promoted from commercial director into the role of UK and Republic of Ireland managing director for Spanish fast-fashion group Inditex, whose fascias include Zara.

Patel’s new role saw him bolster Inditex’s Oxford Street presence with the launch of UK flagships along the London street for the company’s Pull and Bear, which made its UK debut, and Massimo Dutti fascias, adding to the existing Zara and Bershka stores.

But while it continues to be a key interpreter of trends on the UK high street, Zara UK slumped into the red this year, suffering a pre-tax loss of £20m in the year to January 31 against a profit of £4.5m the previous year. Perhaps the launch of its transactional website next year will bring better fortunes for this business.
