Paul Alger

“As we say goodbye - and for some, good riddance - to 2012 and welcome 2013, the industry faces a number of important challenges. First, exporters need to be more proactive in new markets, much like our German and Italian rivals [have done], opening and investing in them. With this in mind the UKFT is working with trade show CPM Moscow, and will take part in a research mission to China with government export body UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the China-Britain Business Council and the British Footwear Association. Second, we have to renew our activity in key eurozone markets, which are important shop windows for emerging markets. Finally, we need to renew our commitment to quality manufacturing for important export markets, such as Japan, which value Made in the UK.”
