Ian Grabiner

Group chief executive, Arcadia

This year, Sir Philip Green’s right-hand man Ian Grabiner was promoted to Arcadia chief executive from his role as chief operating officer. The promotion was seen, both internally and externally, as a long overdue reward for Grabiner’s leadership of the business and his role in the launch of landmark project Topshop New York in April.

Despite numerous hiccups that delayed the launch, Grabiner steered Topshop through the choppy waters of US red tape, building problems and even a flood of the new premises to unveil a Drapers Award-winning store to industry-wide acclaim.

Grabiner’s good eye for cost control is renowned and he has helped Arcadia deliver a 13% profit hike during one of the UK’s deepest recessions.
