Peter Ruis

Peter Ruis is putting John Lewis on the fashion map.

A history graduate, Ruis gained his fashion business training after joining Marks & Spencer in 1989. Most M&S clothes were then made in the UK, giving him an invaluable insight in all areas of the industry. 

At Ted Baker, Ruis oversaw the launch of formalwear, major store wholesale and the start of the licensed USA launch.

Since becoming John Lewis’ fashion buying director, Ruis has turned John Lewis’s image to the extent that fashion and beauty now represents a third of its turnover.

Under his watch, the John Lewis fashion department has grown, including brands such as Jigsaw, Seven for All Mankind and Reiss. He oversaw the creation of a new womenswear concept store aimed at “creating and inspirational shopfit”.

He also oversaw the launch of the John Lewis fashion website.
