Owners, Oi Polloi
Manchester’s Oi Polloi is the super-cool king of British menswear independents. This indie was set up eight years ago by Nigel Lawson and Steve Sanderson, who are revered within the industry for their buying prowess and great taste.
Laid-back, forthright and often somewhat rude, this duo’s innate sense of what is cool has seen them collaborate with the likes of Henri-Lloyd, Danish brand Norse Projects and Paul Smith on unique collections, which they sell alongside some 100 menswear labels including Albam, Belstaff and Folk.
Not only is it revered by its independent peers, but Oi Polloi’s so-cool-it-hurts status has gone global, with world-leading retailers and department stores looking to it for inspiration. The operation has blossomed over the past 12 months. This year Oi Polloi continued to drive plans for an own label and relaunched its website, www.oipolloi.com, which was an immediate hit. The website includes a reputable blog, proving that Lawson and Sanderson are not solely retailers, but product aficionados and menswear market trailblazers.
Oi Polloi offers customers an antidote to stale menswear and openly rejects faddy and fast fashion. The UK retail landscape would be a duller place without these two.
