Co-founder and creative director, J Brand
Phoebe Philo may be responsible for autumn 10’s trouser trend, but it was J Brand’s Susie Crippen who first got women out of jeans and into trousers with the brand’s Houlihan style signalling a major revival of the cargo pant and chino.
At womenswear trade show Pure London in August, sales of similar styles soared for spring 11 as the look went mainstream.
Halfway into the year, womenswear indie Trilogy had shifted £100,000 of the £245 Houlihan cargo pants, but such was the demand that J Brand was unable to manufacture fast enough to supply some of its stockists.
Some 8,000 pairs of Houlihans have sold in the UK since the style launched in March - equivalent to nearly £2m worth of stock. Even the multiples are cashing in on the trend, with Next offering cropped trousers and white jeans with side pockets for spring 11, inspired by J Brand’s best-selling style.
