Managing director, Topman
David Shepherd should give himself a pat on the back after Topman was heralded as one of the star performers of parent company Arcadia Group when it posted record sales last month for the year to August 28. And if Shepherd needs more ammunition to please owner Sir Philip Green, figures from Verdict Research show Topman’s menswear market share is set to rise from 1.7% in 2005 to 2.1% by the end of this year.
And while Topman continues to be among the high street leaders in terms of interpreting menswear trends for young fashion, it has been guilty of clinging on to the preppy trend for too long and should be leading rather than following trends.
With the likes of Uniqlo going from strength to strength by delivering on-trend, quality pieces at low prices, Shepherd must ensure the retailer remains at the top of its game.
