Brand director, River Island
2010 has been a year of change at River Island, as Richard Bradbury passed his chief executive’s baton to Ben Lewis after a 20-year tenure at the company, putting the young fashion giant back in the charge of the Lewis family that owns it.
It’s been a tricky period for the retailer. The last set of accounts River Island filed at Companies House in 2009 showed a 7.9% increase in sales to £826.4m but a 14% drop in pre-tax profits to £138.6m.
Brand director Farida Kaikobad has been a constant throughout all of this. She has helped River Island to shake up its offer by putting together exciting collections that acknowledge all of the big catwalk trends but interpreted with the sex appeal needed to impress River Island’s type of girl.
Trade has not been easy though and River Island could face a rocky patch unless Kaikobad is left to get on with her job.
