42 Derek Lovelock

Executive chairman, Aurora Fashions

This year, together with right-hand man Mike Shearwood, Derek Lovelock has been instrumental in steering spin-off business Karen Millen on the road to success, with the womenswear retailer expected to report profits of £21m for the year to February 2011. Speculation mounted over the year that Lovelock was among the parties interested in acquiring the beleaguered Jane Norman chain, but if this was true he was beaten to it by Philip Day’s Edinburgh Woollen Mill. Lovelock also failed to hang on to Barbara Horspool, who decided to stay at New Look instead of joining Oasis.

What they say about him… Aurora’s Mike Shearwood says there’s nothing Lovelock doesn’t know about dressing women.
