Founder, chairman and chief executive, Polo Ralph Lauren
Brand master Ralph Lauren is now estimated to have a $4.6bn (£2.94bn) fortune that puts him among the top 200 wealthiest people in the world. At his Polo Ralph Lauren business, profits rose 24% to £549m for the year ended April 3. The fact the US backlash is over and fashion has flicked back to heritage and classic Americana trends in recent seasons can only have further boosted his coffers.
Lauren was an early champion of this year’s significant double denim trend, having shown it for both men and women for spring 10, but it’s his Polo Ralph Lauren diffusion collection that continues to have the biggest impact.
The launch of a standalone UK website angered some stockists but the detrimental effect they feared it would have on their sales doesn’t appear to have materialised.
