73 Mike Shearwood (86)

Chief executive, Aurora Fashions

Under Mike Shearwood, Aurora Fashions, the group behind womenswear chains Oasis, Karen Millen, Warehouse and Coast, posted operating profits of £22.6m in the 11 months to January 30 and notched up a 5% rise in like-for-like sales over the six months to July 31.

He has driven a strategy of making sure the Aurora chains stay in constant dialogue with their customers, and towards the back end of 2010, the group announced plans to “take Twitter to the boardroom” - allowing shoppers to tweet directors at their board meeting every Tuesday. Aurora also plans to stay ahead online by becoming the first etailer to offer 90-minute delivery windows to its shoppers. Shearwood is pushing ahead of rivals with his multi-channel strategies too.
