Managing director, Harrods
Michael Ward was one of very few Harrods bosses who managed to work in harmony with former owner Mohamed Al Fayed and has remained comfortably in the role under new ownership. Ward’s lack of ego and love of the sheer theatre of Harrods make him an endearing character to run the business.
Another record year at Harrods saw pre-tax profits rise 40% to £77.8m in the year to January 30, on sales of £519.8m.
Overseas tourists have snapped up the business’s super brands, whose “renaissance” - as Ward dubs it - has been so integral to Harrods’ success.
